Surviscor Commentary:HSBC InvestDirect continues to operate at the lower tier of the online brokerage industry in Canada, perhaps somewhat handcuffed by worldwide corporate guidelines, especially in terms of look and feel. HSBC InvestDirect's main strengths are its cost structure and its banking relationship. Despite not having a pure active trader platform to speak of, its commissions allow an active user to benefit despite the lack of robust active trader features and functionality. The main drawback of the entire offering is the very simplistic apporach to features and functionality. The basics are present and perform the necessary functions; however, to play in this very competitive marketplace, the site will need to be re-built along with the core functionality and support tools.
